“And Made America Decline Again” – 2021
Edition of 12 of each size. Each is signed and numbered on the front, sometimes also on the verso. Printed by Jan Oberg on Hahnemühle or Canson fine-art inkjet papers. Normally, available in four sizes. The buyer receives a signed Certificate of Authenticity with the print.
This is a complex collage based on the photo-op image of President Trump with the Bible in front of St. John’s Church House, turned three times. The bottom one has the US flag and Biden with a face mask and Covid-19 symbol inserted on Trump’s lapel. The middle one is positioned so Trump’s face is on the Bible cover and his tie throws Trump’s light onto Trump himself.
The top one (upside-down) has a nuclear explosion on the Bible cover, inscribed “Power Is My God”.
The top parts of the Church House sign are used as arrows, the U.S. goes up and it goes down.
Colours are dark, muted, the darkest upper part threatening to press deeper down on whatever light is left.
It’s about God’s own country sinking. Exceptionalism and world dominance coming to an end. All Empires come to an end, but how will this end?
